In the
summer months The Jacobite steam train runs between
Fort William and Mallaig (a line familiar from
the Harry Potter films) and passes through the
village, evoking the romance of former times.
Unfortunately Morar has lost its village hall,
shop and post office and there is no place for
people to meet.
It has a Games Field belonging to both Morar and
Mallaig which annually holds their Highland Games
and other sports events. However, it cannot be
used to its full potential as there are no changing
rooms or toilet facilities.
The Trust’s main project at present is
to erect a pavilion adjacent to the Games Field.
This community building will provide changing
facilities for sports and other events, public
toilets and a cafe with visitor information and
a display/gallery area.
The cafe will also be a gathering place for the
community, providing a hub where people can meet.
